New LFPG scenery: no textures in FSX DX10 mode?

I really do like the new Paris De Gaulle for FSX. My problem is that this is the first new add-on scenery I've got for FSX which seems to be incompatible with FSX/AccelerationDX10 mode.

The symptoms are -- no textures on any of the buildings or airport vehicles.

To make sure it was installed correctly, I re-ran FSX in DX9 mode, and it was fine.

I prefer to run in DX10 mode because I get far better frame rates everywhere then -- up to double!

So, is there any intention to re-jig the textures to make them load correctly in DX10 mode, please? There's no problem with any of the other Aerosoft sceneries I've got.

Best Regards

Hi Pete,

welcome here in the Forum.

The Scenery did not use the FSX spezific Materials, so the DX10 Mode will not work here.

But I point Thorsten to your post, he can maybe explain it better.

Well, I assumed it couldn't have been made to be DX10 compatible, but that is a great shame and this should really be pointed out, I think. I know there aren't many of us using DX10, but those that are are doing so for good reason -- much better performance, especially on Vista 64 with nVidia drivers.

It means I have to switch to DX9 (and that means reloading FSX) in order to use Paris De Gaulle, which is rather disruptive to say the least.

Perhaps Thorsten can at least promise an update (hopefully soon?) to allow DX10 to be used?

Best Regards

Pete

I just sit her and feel its so sad that all these new good sceneries not are in DX10.

I have LFPG, Barajas, EBBR and EDDF. And I wonder aren't you guys going to do something about it. I mean.

There are conversion programs to make it to DX10. When I change to DX9 a lot of graphics like weather phenomenons and performance are hit.

Its pity that af very skilled software developer like Aerosoft don't keep up. May UK2000 scenery inspire you guys.

Happy New Year

DX10 is a preview mode and DX9 is the Primary Mode for FSX, reason being is that DX10 is still buggy.

Hopefully this will all change in the next version of FS.

The next version of FS? Hmm. That's useful ... ;-)

DX10 might be "buggy" but as far as I can tell, it is only buggy for sceneries and aircraft not specifically designed for fSX with DX10 in mind. I am getting far better performance with DX10 than with DX9, and I believe that will only get better as video cards and drivers are optimised for the current and future DX series rather than DX9.

I've been adding all of the European sceneries designed for FSX providing they are annotated as SP2/Acceleration compatible, as that should indicate DX10 compatible too -- or at least it has done so far for all of them with the sole exception of LFPG.

Luckily, I have just discovered that there is a solution for Aerosoft Paris -- Addon Converter X v1.03. That does the job splendidly, converting all the LFPG textures, and they look better then ever.

Thought you ought to know! ;-)

Thank you Mr. Dowson,

This was good to know; I'm one of those people that have spent a lot of time and money researching and buying aircraft and sceneries that, sadly, fell short of their intended glory in FSX because of this issue (NOT DX10 compatible). I am, however, encouraged to hear that there are tools out now which will ensure that developers are able to meet our needs, as customers, for FSX and DX10. I, for one, paid more than $2,000.00 USD in 2007 for water cooled 8800GTX Video cards which (because of designed limitations for sceneries in FSX being DX9 and NOT DX10) I've never been able to use to their full DX10 pontential in FSX. I hope now Aerosoft's and partner developers will resolve these issues for us in the year(s) to come.

Finally, I intend to purchase things for DX10 ONLY in the near future and have already begun to do so with FSX Aircraft.

:)

PS: Get the Addon Converter X v1.03 here; So now NOBODY can claim that DirectX10 is NOT supported. ;)

Hi Pete,

I´m following the discussion for a while without having a bright solution. But now I have to ask:

What is it good for to convert the LFPG textures ? I have tested LFPG in DX10 Preview on my PC and it works even in DX10 PREVIEW without any texture problems at day time.

So what was the problem using LFPG in DX10 at your PC? No textures at all? Maybe a new graphic card/driver problem? What did AddonConverter solve?

The only problem, also mentioned in the manual of LFPG, is the night time. Textures won´t show at night due to a bug in the DX10 Preview scenery engine. And as far as I know this cannot be solved by a simple texture conversion. Or is the demo version of AddonConverter I tested different to the final one and it does the job well and all night textures will show??

Thorsten, sim-wings

BTW: Consider making a scenery in these days for FS9 and FSX simultanously will allways end up in a hybrid version. Making a pure DX10 version will be a third (!) version with a very poor visual appearance as DX10, or better FSX SDK, does not allow any ground layering, seasonal changes, triggering for animations....... I dont know if customer will be satisfied with a DX10 version only showing half of details and blurry LC ground textures at the apron.

I know some are doing it that way but I allways thought that quality and visual appearance is more important than using the newest techniques.

PS: Shaun is absolutely right calling DX10 PREVIEW buggy. I discoverd ground flickering also at default Airports (like Frankfurt) in DX10. DX9 without any problem
