Ugo, as Wing Nut said, you already have it, and you can add the texture to your wheel version. I have.

Not really a shame. Just treat it like any other repaint addition, and put it into your wheel model of choice.

I have installed most all the non-wheel versions of the paints into my wheel versions, and also installed the 100 version paints into my 300 versions, and visa versa. ;)

Hi Guys,

Can someone write out the instructions on how to transfer the non-wheel paints into the wheel ones as i love the paint jobs on the non wheels but dont like flying the floats as much as i like the wheeled versions.

I know a lot to ask but i not really good at editing the files so would really appreciate it if anyone can give me an idot's guide for myself please.

cheers,

Hi Demi,

I will attempt to take you through the steps as clearly as i can this is for FSX...

This example is to transfer the paint job for the Twin Otter 100 Ski to the Twin Otter 100 Wheels

Step1:

Open your directory where the paint job you want is located for me it is...

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Aerosoft Twin Otter 100 Ski

Copy the folder texture.kba into the airplane folder you want the paintjob to appear in my case ...

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Aerosoft Twin Otter 100 Wheels

rename the folder you just pasted to something like texture.kba-100 this needs to be done in order for FSX to recognise it up when it starts

Step 2:

Open the following file so you can do some copy and pasting of the texture info...

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Aerosoft Twin Otter 100 Ski\aircraft.cfg

Highlight and copy the part where it says...

[FLTSIM.0]

title=de Havilland Canadian Twin Otter KBA

sim=DHC6

model=fski

panel=

sound=

texture=kba

kb_checklists=dhc6-300-wheel_check

kb_reference=dhc6-300-wheel_ref

atc_id=C-FSJB

atc_parking_types=RAMP

ui_manufacturer="de Havilland Canada"

ui_type="DHC-6-100"

ui_variation="Kenn Borek Air Ltd."

ui_typerole="Twin Engine TurboProp"

ui_createdby="Aerosoft"

you now need to close this file without saving

Now open the directory where you pasted the new renamed texture folder in my case...

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Aerosoft Twin Otter 100 Wheels

Now open the aircraft.cfg file in this directory

Scroll down to the last entry of the [FLTSIM.0] blocks of text in my case it finishes at [FLTSIM.2]

Where there is a blank line below this block of text insert 2 more lines of spaces (ie: hit return on your keyboard twice) you should now have 3 blank lines of between instead of 1.

left click on middle blank line and paste the block of text you have copied

You now need to rename the [FLTSIM.0] to the next number in line in my case i would change the [FLTSIM.0] to [FLTSIM.3] once you have completed that you then need to edit some more of the block of text i have highlighted what they are in following block of text in RED.

[FLTSIM.0 change to 3]

title=de Havilland Canadian Twin Otter KBA

sim=DHC6

model=fski change to 100

panel= if you were editing the 300 folder you would need to add org here otherwise leave blank

sound=

texture=kba change to kba-100 this is the extension part of the texture folder we renamed

kb_checklists=dhc6-300-wheel_check

kb_reference=dhc6-300-wheel_ref

atc_id=C-FSJB

atc_parking_types=RAMP

ui_manufacturer="de Havilland Canada"

ui_type="DHC-6-100"

ui_variation="Kenn Borek Air Ltd."

ui_typerole="Twin Engine TurboProp"

ui_createdby="Aerosoft"

now close and save when asked.

special note: the model= needs to be in our case 100 because that is the model of plane we are editing, if you were editing the 300 aircraft folder it would be 300 also with the 300 series you need to add org into the panel= line under the model= line.

Congratulations your paintjob from the ski 100 version should now appear in the wheeled 100 section of FSX.

It seems confusing and complicated but once you have done one or two you will find it easy.

I hope i have explained it well enough if not you could tell me the paint job you want transferred and i could do it for you and send you the files you need.

cheers,

Mike (kymsheba)

Now a small question; I'm going to do a world tour with the Twin Otter. I'd like to make an ultimate version of the Twotter; the modern cockpit with the interior of the British Airways variant with a wheel/ski landing gear. Is this technically possible (I'm wondering because the gauges for the cockpit are in the model...) ? Thanks!

Hi

Good question, although I’ve never tried it and assuming that the gauges are part of the interior model file, I suppose that theoretically it would be possible to modify the model.cfg file to call the dhc6_fski for the normal entry and dhc6_int for the interior entry with the appropriate files in your newly created aircrafts model folder.

Something else I'm wondering about is why there aren't any -300 series float variants included...and neither some paints like:

Libyan Arab Airlines (16 -300 series a/c)

Maldivian Air Taxi (4 -100 series & 9 -300 series a/c)

Trans Maldivian Airways (1 - 100 & 10 -300 series a/c - though this one can be downloaded from Avsim)

Zimex Aviation (according to the database of FlightGlobal the largest Twotter operator in Europe - 8 -300 series a/c)

Seaborne Airlines (5 -300 series a/c - floats only I think)

And I'd like to say that I'm one of many Twin Otter X customers who are willing to pay for an add-on to the Twin Otter X so it can get an amphibian variant! Maybe you can contact Viking Air and make it into one single package as add-on => a -400 series variant and a amphibious and float version (be it of the -100 or -300 series) ?

Another point is the Kenn Borek Air variant that is only available in the -100 series variant...(and even with skis only).

Maybe Mathijs can answer to these questions ? Was it so much work to make a float variant of the -300 series ? Strange enough, when I look at the pictures at Airliners.net, there are only pictures of the -300 as a floatplane with the Canadian (Armed) Forces...and not a -100 series as in your version. Weird, very weird...

I remember there was discussion while in development that originally no -300 floaters were made. That it's just recent days when -300s are changed to floaters, because of some new manufacturing techniques made it possible.
