Help Pls For A Newbie

Hi

I have read and reread the manual and read a number of the discussion topics which has also helped but in short I still must be doning something wrong.

Im on vista fs9

I have loaded aes and added credits , I have selected airports on the aes list plessed the button the box says fs will be updated next time, but when I go to the airport in fs (london Heathrow) then press ctr shift w nothing happens

One of your discussions (most of which are so way above my head) talked about trying opening as administrator and that allowed me to use the aes door location feature which before didnt work but still no joy on the fs side.

when i try to add other airports an error message comes up about error fixing virtual store but i cant see anyone else having this problem in the forum so guess im doing something so basically wrong that its never mentioned..not even in the manual! if i press configuration it comes up with an error while connection to flight simulator pls start fsand place aircraft on an active aes airport.

It might be an idea to have a problem solution feature in the manuals? - for instance have bought a aes airport does this appear in fs airport list as being different than the existing airports already there - how can one see if fs can see the changes.

Thanks in advance.

chris

Hi,

you will have a "general" Problem with you FS9 Installation, but's not you fault:

If you install the "old" FS9, developed not to be compatible to the specific User Protection of Vista with the default Path (c:\Program Files\..) you will get in trouble, because Vista will redirect several files writen by the FS or other tools into the FS directory to the "Virtual Store". As long as you use only the native FS, maybe not so critical, but when other addon will be installed (sceneries, AES and so on), you will get direct the first Problem:

Your Scenery.cfg, which controll all the scenery you use, is maybe not anymore readed from the FS Main directory, it is readed from the Virtual Store. But Installer will add there entries to the scenery.cfg in the FS Main directory, because they allways run in Admin mode. When you then start the FS, this new entries get not active, because the FS not read this file.

AES will warn you, that there is a scenery.cfg in the Virtual Store, but AES has no chance to deside, which cfg is the better one.

It is complex to explain, how to fix such a installation. The best way is to reinstall the FS into a subdirectory, which is outside of the Vista Protection, like a Dir C:\FS9\.. oder if possible D:\FS9\...

In this case, the FS will be handle like under XP and you will never have Problems with Installations and file missmerge.

And, then AES will work also as normal on XP and the communication between AESHelp and the FS is possible, without any trick, like starting FS in Admin Mode.

In your case, I would expect that the AES Basepack is not part of your scenery.cfg in the virtual store, so AES is not active in FS, even when you check a Airport in AEShelp. Maybe you can check you scenery Library in FS, if you find the AES Basepack on top if the List there and maybe add the path <fsmain>\Aerosoft\AES to the list and place it ontop

But I recommand to reinstall the FS to a different directory, because otherwise you will have problems all the time, not only with AES
