Hdr In Fsx Dx9

Came across this article at simflight.com.

I quote:

"This little .dll adds HDR to FSX in DX9 - without noticeable impact on framerates (at least on newer cards). It’s the same effect you see in Half Life, for example, and it mimics the eye’s adaption to bright light and darkness. All you have to do is to open the archive, copy the DLL and the ini-file into your FSX directory and start up FSX to see the effect. What happens is that colors become more vivid, the image is less flat and it now makes a difference if you look into the direction of the sun or away from it. Even during the night, it adds more realism. The effect works windowed or in full screen. Be careful, you might become addicted to it."

Anybody have any experience with this dll? My understanding is that there was a version of this for FS9 as well. And why do these "apps" always come from some weird russian url?

Because the russians are programming heroes :-). I know one personally, doing filter add-ins for audio and video - the stuff this guy makes is incredible.

So if anybody decides to try it out (I am unable to at present) then please let us know how it goes?

EDIT: There is actually a post on this dll on avsim here which I missed. No consistent results so far...

I've been using it and it works good--really makes a difference to the lighting in FSX. Some people are having problems. Check out the avsim discussion.

Is it just me or does this DLL give FS a little bit of an X-Plane look? I am a die-hard FS fan and I've only seen screenshots of X-Plane, but it always seems to have a darker and more shaded look that this DLL brings. Regardless, I think it makes FS look nicer :). The super-easy installation (and uninstall) is also a plus.

I can't decide what settings to use though. I played around with several of them but found that my edits looked good during the day but not at night and vice versa. Thorsten, are you using the stock INI file in those screenshots? If not could you post the settings you use?

Yes, it dos look a bit mor elike X-Plane, but only because the contrasts are better in X-Plane. We all know, that X-Plane only does a few things better than FS(X), so this DLL is one more reason not to buy X-Plane. :D

I only moved the DLL and INI into the FSX root folder, no tweaking, no editing. It's just perfect for me. :)
